Rules of University Conduct

The Rules of University Conduct (Chapter XLIV of the Statutes of the University) provide special disciplinary rules applicable to demonstrations, rallies, picketing, and the circulation of petitions. These rules are designed to protect the rights of free expression through peaceful demonstration while at the same time ensuring the proper functioning of the University and the protection of the rights of those who may be affected by such demonstrations. The Rules of University Conduct are University-wide and supersede all other rules of any school or division.

Academic Calendar

The academic calendar is a crucial tool and should be reviewed regularly. Here you will find required information related to both your academic and financial life at the School. The change of program (add/drop) period, holidays and dates by which to submit applications to graduate are just some of the essential information included there. Financial implications are tied to registration and changing your program of study after certain dates. It is important to be aware of how these modifications to your registration are connected to the calendar.

Grade Grievance Procedures

Questions about a course grade should be discussed first with the course instructor and then with the program head or department chair, if necessary. In the case of a serious unresolved disagreement between a student and instructor concerning grades, the student must submit an official letter of complaint to the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of Students will appoint a committee of three faculty members to review the case. The committee will decide whether the grade warrants a change either to a higher or lower grade or if the grade should remain the same.

Leave of Absence

Students who will not be registering for more than three semesters must apply for a formal Leave of Absence. This can be accomplished by completing the Leave of Absence form available in the OSA and online at:

Grievance Procedures for Students (Interim)

At the request of the President, the School reviewed its procedures by which students may express grievances regarding improper treatment by faculty. While the School provides many avenues for addressing non-academic concerns, its formal student grievance procedures focus solely on grade appeals.
