Composition of the Dissertation Defense Committee

A dissertation committee is composed of five members, the sponsor, the chair and three other faculty members. Three members of the committee are from within the department and two from outside the student’s department. At the department’s discretion a larger committee may be convened, but there must be an odd number of voting members. Faculty members in the student’s department other than the sponsor with doctoral committee experience may chair the dissertation defense committee. Scholars and researchers from outside the University may sit on DrPH committees. Department must forward CV of non CU member for approval by Academic Dean.
